The Common Baron Caterpillar is a true master of camouflage. When it positions itself perfectly on a mango tree leaf, it is nearly impossible to spot, even if you know it’s there.
Some animals naturally develop camouflage in order to make themselves harder to spot by predators, but some are much better than others, and some blend into their natural surroundings perfectly. The Common Baron Caterpillar (Euthalia aconthea), a critter native to India and Southeast Asia, fits in the latter category. It has evolved to blend into its preferred background so well that it is nearly impossible to see.

The ones I see should camoflauge themselves to look like asphalt.
Random genetic mutation + birds eating the least-camouflaged ones, prior to reproduction. Including the ones lacking the instinct to stand right along the leaf centerline.

Actually, it is. Mutations happen constantly; the ones that enable the caterpillar to survive are the ones that are passed along to the next generation. This is called “natural selection.” Over time, the accumulated mutations have the effect of making the caterpillar very difficult to see against its background.
If not for the process of evolution, we would not have Covid-19. But evolution just won’t stop, so we have it.
Evolution is fine. It’s the idea that random mutation is the sole mechanism that drives evolution that I find absurd.

Local GOP is mostly good decent patriots. Oh, there are some bad actors in there, for sure.
At the state level, perhaps half-n-half. Somehow the local bad apples have a leg-up on advancing to the state levels.
At the national level, 90% or more bad actors. Either the worst of the worst at the State levels are sucked upstairs, or the worst of the worst at the State levels are aided by the Deep State, or something else... dunno.
At the national level, the GOP should be burned to the ground, and started fresh.
For the 'Rats? Bad actors, 100%, from National to State to Local. Burn the 'Rat party to the ground at all levels.
