Yes on the vent windows. Family would make long distance summer trips to my great aunt’s & uncle’s farm — parents, four children, a dog, luggage in the trunk and on the roof rack, and a large metal Coleman cooler filled with sandwiches, snacks, bottled Coke, and ice. No A/C, so my mother would smoke unfiltered Chesterfields, with the lit end sticking out of the vent window.

Had the coolers on the back seat floor and my Dad cut a piece of plywood to cover the coolers and the back seat, covered with blankets. i.e. giant playpen! (Pre-seat belts)
