I agree - the list is pretty awful.
The following are staples when I go to the grocery store. Most of these can be found along the perimeter of the store so that you don't have to go down too many aisles (where almost all the junk is)
- Berries (blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries)
- Extra large eggs
- Kerrygold Irish Butter
- Whole fat yogurt (i.e. Siggis or Brown Cow)
- Whole chickens and/or chicken quarters (legs and thighs)
- Uncured bacon
- Bone-in steaks
- Bone-in pork chops
- Frozen fish and shrimp (wild-caught)
- Sweet potatoes
- Any green vegetables
- Onions and garlic (for cooking)
- Salad greens
- Nuts (unsalted and preferably raw)
- Cheeses (real cheeses - not the individually wrapped Kraft)
- Peanut or Almond butter
- Olive oil
- Canned sardines and oysters
