No, that Astellas vaccine candidate did not prove to be effective in meeting its desired endpoints (e.g., provide protection from mortality). Your and others’ participation in that trial helped prove that. Again, props to you for volunteering.

The Moderna candidate vaccine had very promising results in its Phase 2 trial. It produced good immune responses sufficient to prevent CMV entry into a range of target cell types and thus prevent primary and congenital infections. I expect Moderna’s Phase 3 trial kicking off now to have good results. Many thousands of future American babies can be expected to be spared from disease resulting from prenatal maternal infections.

I just don’t understand how they could differentiate the side effects of the cmv vaccine or placebo vs the AML/bone marrow transplant I was going thru at the same time.
