He may be but I haven't seen the evidence.
At this point, there’s more than ‘rumor and innuendo.’ Gaetz’s friend - Joel Greenberg - has already reached a negotiated plea on more than 30 federal indictments. Greenberg’s own lawyer has disclosed that in exchange for Greenberg’s cooperation against Gaetz, he’s pleading guilty to sex trafficking of a minor child and another half-dozen or more crimes with the remaining charges being dismissed (or likely tabled pending his full cooperation with a promise to dismiss once his cooperation is no longer needed). Incriminating testimony from a cooperating witness and/or co-conspirator is evidence. Also, pleading guilty on sex trafficking is a big deal because it’s a real crime with real prison time including lifelong registration as a sex offender. Whatever the government had against Greenberg, it must have been robust to leverage that into a guilty plea on trafficking.
What’s interesting is it’s not DoJ’s Sex Crimes Unit or Human Trafficking Taskforce that is prosecuting this case even though that particular salacious element of the investigation is what is getting all the press. Instead, it’s the public corruption division doing the prosecuting; Greenberg was an elected FL state official who engaged in a variety of pretty horrible abuses of office. DoJ has been involved in the investigation for more than a year now.
