That has been true throughout all history up until the founding of the USA. You really don’t appreciate how unique and successful the USA is until you contemplate the long record of peaceful transition of power (as flawed as it has been with Hillary Clinton and Biden).
I started watching “Rome” last night. When Emperor Marcus Aurelius was away fighting the Germanic tribes, he took ill. Riders were dispatched to Rome with the news but it got turned into rumor that he had died. Then the jockeying started for control of the empire. Usually when an emperor dies, his enemies dispatched the entire family of the deceased empower.
Brutal power has ruled mankind for millennia. Perhaps that more than anything is what worries me about Democrats and the Deep State. They are going after Trump now for “crimes” they are concocting before he was elected. It’s the modern form of dispatching the emperor.
