The rest of the story is that Officer Oberheim responded to a domestic disturbance. He was shot 3 times and killed before he could exit his squad. He never drew his weapon. His partner was wounded and the perp was eventually shot and killed.
The ONLY reason that WCIA apologized for running the story praising the dead perp, who had a long criminal record, was because a large group of advertisers pulled their commercial ads in protest. Advertisers from seed corn companies to banks and hospitals.

My friend was in Monticello today and viewed Officer Oberheim's funeral procession. Somewhere around 150 LE vehicles were part of the cortege. American flags, BIG American flags lined both side of the route.
Years ago, I worked/lived in this market. I am so happy that the good folks of East Central Illinois remain the salt of the earth and in no way reflect the garbage that is Chicago.

Compassionate Darion had been involved in violent crime numerous times over the past few years and was still on the streets. In a better world, he would have been practicing compassion behind bars, and the officer would still be serving his community and going home to his family. In the world we have, Compassionate Darion is off the streets for good, a benefit that was gained at a terrible cost.
