WCIA 3, a Champaign, Illinois-based CBS affiliate, apologized for running a story memorializing a man who killed Champaign police officer Chris Oberheim and wounded another.
“WCIA apologizes for the insensitivities with the story we aired about the family of Darion Lafayette,” said the network. “The situation in its entirety is tragic and it was our intent to provide an opportunity for his family to share their grief with the community. It is still an active investigation and we will continue to provide updates and follow developments as they become available.”
WCIA ran a story talking to the family of an individual who murdered a police officer and wounded another one. In the segment, WCIA included a picture of the cop-killer with angel wings.
“He is the most compassionate person you will ever meet in your life. If you ever knew him,” claimed the brother of the individual who killed Officer Chris Oberheim. The individual had three previous arrests for domestic violence involving three different women and a charge for drug possession.
Officer Oberheim was murdered while responding to a domestic disturbance call at 3:20 AM on Wednesday (5/19)

Monticello, Illinois is a nice town.
I’ve spent time in Monticello. Restaurants serve tasty food, there.
It’s a great little town.
The best lemon cookies I ever had were at Pies by Inge, in Monticello.
Champaign Illinois CBS affiliate WCIA 3 must never call the police again. Let them hire private security and call cop killers when they need help.
That photo is for real?!? If so, that has to be one of the most disgusting things I have seen. Just beyond belief.
Compassionate Darion had been involved in violent crime numerous times over the past few years and was still on the streets. In a better world, he would have been practicing compassion behind bars, and the officer would still be serving his community and going home to his family. In the world we have, Compassionate Darion is off the streets for good, a benefit that was gained at a terrible cost.
They’re still doing a great business.
It’s a real mural, ala George Floyd.
That is a special level of degeneracy.
WCIA included a picture of the cop-killer with angel wings.
Obviously not.
