Sigh. It was sad to read, kind of an end of innocence type of thing. My wife and I drove past there last year, and didn’t realize right away that was the place. How sad, such an attractive area, with that hanging over it.

I think you could say to people until you are blue in the face that it was an exceedingly rare thing, etc. etc. etc.

Driving off Pikes Peak in a car that lost its brakes and plummeted a thousand feet won’t stop people from driving up Pike’s Peak.

But someone being killed by a shark will ruin ocean swimming for many people forever.

I can only imagine having seen that.

I collided with a bicyclist a few years back and while I wasn’t physically hurt, the image of him flying over my hood in super slow motion, his open mouth, his bare legs, his body cartwheeling as the cartwheeling bike followed him mirroring his path...well, that was a short video clip that played over and over in my head for months. Anytime I wasn’t engaged doing something, I would see it playing out...over and over.

Those poor people. I pray for them. I just cannot imagine seeing that. I never discounted PTSD like I have seen some people do, but that gave me a much different perspective on the power of it.

My dad died very suddenly from a heart attack.

I did CPR on him until the rescue squad arrived.

For weeks afterward, every time I closed my eyes to try to go to sleep, that same thing would happen. It would replay in perfect detail over and over until 8 finally fell asleep. I dreaded going to bed at that time.

Yup, keeping busy was the only way to avoid the instant replays.
