Why in the heck is the FEDERAL government concerning itself with exit markers? And cutting off funds? How many millions of dollars is this going to cost nationwide?

New York still does sequential.

I wonder....when was the last time New York added an exit to the Thruway?

I agree. Who cares if a state uses sequential numbering or miles?

I personally prefer miles-based exits, but certainly the sequential numberings on the NJ Turnpike and the NY State Thruway don’t bother me. It’s just another way of doing things.

I remember traveling to see my friend at Virginia Tech, and the exit from I-81 for the college was Exit 37 (sequential). Now, it’s exit 118 (miles).

I don’t really care which is which. I like the miles-based system, since adding a new exit then doesn’t usually involve adding a letter, but really, is having sequential numbering really that bothersome to interstate commerce and traveling?

Yes, sequential numbering is bothersome because you have no way of knowing how many miles to your exit. With exits numbered to match their milemarker you can look at any milemarker you pass and know how many miles you have to reach your exit. (or the next exit if you're having an emergency)

Yes, there's a cost to convert to mileage based exit numbering but many states started more than half a century ago.

This I-495 forms an outer bypass around Boston.

The beauty of mileage numbered exits is that it also tells you how many mikes before you get there. I like the mileage based exits, but the transition has to be well planned.

Yeah, it’s nice, but I don’t want to pay for it. Obviously, I already have in PA, so have you since PA gets federal highway dollars.

Paying for it is less bitter when it’s a genuinely better way. BTW - I used to travel I86 off of I90 in PA, so I am very familiar with the required changeover process. I used to live in Binghamton NY.

Naturally, the fatter the wallet the more they have to spend on their side pieces and still keep the trophy wife and her personal trainer all warm and snuggly.
I tell you. It ain’t cheap being a crooked, philandering politician.

Every stinking dollar is need to improve the condition of roads and bridges in PA. I'll live without exit sign changes, huge automated signs telling me to wear a mask and socially distance, rumble strips dividing the road and the berm and a bunch of other useless crap. I lived a long life and so have a lot of other people without this wasteful crap.
