“Out, out brief candle ...”
I remember this from high school. I was in an English teacher's classroom at lunchtime talking to one of his students.
I had been in one of his classes, but he openly treated me poorly on the basis of my conservatism. So, I jumped ship and transferred to another English class.
On the occasion of being in his classroom, he decided that he wanted to lock up and go. He (playfully) yelled out "Out (my last name), Out (friend's last name)!! I responded with "Out Bataro (his name)!!"
He responded to that in good humor by stating that when one addresses a teacher, they should use a different tone, as in , "Out, out brief flame!". My immediate response to that was "Out Damn Spot!"
