China Seeks to Override Washington with ‘Subnational’ U.S. State Deals

China’s state-run Global Times on Sunday hailed Chinese provinces and American state governments for “seeking to boost subnational economic and trade cooperation” — in other words, bypassing U.S. national policy and its restrictions on trade with China.

The Global Times was excited that representatives from U.S. states such as California, New York, and Iowa attended an online forum for economic cooperation run by China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM).

Is this even allowed? Or is it more, tolerated?

Could be wrong but I would think under the previous administration this wouldn't be happening.

But, with the new administration of CornPop and Harris, why would they need to do this, when they know they have DC in their hip pocket?

Yet again, unconstitutional.

Not like that matters.

I think our federal government is way too big and is involved in stuff it shouldn’t be, but I agree with you that this is EXACTLY where it does belong. Individual states can not make “official” treaties, etc. with countries outside the US. The can make agreements with each other, but that is about it. And even that is limited.

Speaking of “sub national” ChiCom deals. What ever happened to the BILLION DOLLARS the California Governor sent to China for masks?

China owns Joe.

China is now using this opportunity to destroy the United States ... from within.

This can be compared to what might have happened if France would have recognized the Confederate States of America. The French Navy would have broken the U.S. blockade of the Southern ports. The French were close to accepting the challenge, but Antietam gave France enough doubt to back away.

California entered into illegal treaties with China during the Trump years.

Treaties or the state doing state business with Chinese companies?

Slight difference, although pretty much the same thing.

Oh don’t you know, that a sizeable portion of that money boomeranged right back to the folks in the California government. Amazing how many can’t see that this is how politicians of both flavors, but mainly the Democrats, make their money and get rich. Using other peoples money, the taxpayers, to fill their bank accounts and no one knows or questions a thing.

No, what would be considered treaties under the Constitution.

Government-to-Government agreements to spite Trump. Totally illegal and unconstitutional.

See, e.g.,

No sh*t. They can do anything they want, so it seems. Insane.

The unfortunate thing is, even many “Red State Governors” will happily take that Chinese money in the blink of an eye, as the corrupt SOB, here in Georgia, did. Disgusting people.
