Why do guys wear hats indoors when everyone is aware that it is rude and ungentlemanly?
We were walking int St Peters in Rome and I had to ask my boyfriend to remove his cap. Why not just remove it before someone tells you to?

I don’t normally wear baseball caps in nice restaurants. I’m well aware that it’s ill-mannered, but one day I was traveling and misplaced my comb, and was my hair was pretty unkempt, so I tried to cover it up with a cap. The restaurant called me out for it, so, fair enough, I continued my lunch with bed-head for all to see.
I get the impression that the majority of people under the age of 50 would qualify as “unchurched”. They grew up without organized religion having much direct influence in their lives or in their family routines.
Many just don’t know any better than to keep their trusty ballcaps on everywhere.
Plus, it’s now okay to dress casually almost everywhere, even sweatpants at a wedding is not unheard of in some circles.
Good parents will teach their children proper manners. I think that died out in 1968.
Gentlemen take off their hats when meeting a lady or entering a room. My Dad taught me that as a little kid.
