Hear ya, Beggars is amazing. It was the album where they finally found their unique voice. From ‘62 to ‘64 they were essentially a blues cover band, albeit a very good one. From ‘65 through ‘67 they released some excellent original material, but were inconsistent and tried too hard to be like the Beatles. After Their Satanic Majesties Request (late ‘67), which was a disastrous attempt to emulate Sgt. Pepper, they stopped for a while to re-group, and the result was their first truly original masterpiece, Beggars Banquet (late ‘68). That set them on a run of albums that might be the best in the genre’s history, through Exile in ‘72. Goat’s Head Soup (‘73) and It’s Only Rock n Roll (‘74) had some great material, but their peak had passed. Imo.
