Actually, THAT one is from the Crusade against the Cathar Heresy in France. After one town fell, all the residents are to be found in its church. With no way to tell Cathar heretics from loyal Catholics, the crusaders aren’t sure who to kill and who to let go. The Pope’s representative puts the crusaders at ease with, “Kill them all, the Lord will surely know his own.” It’s a reference to a Bible passage.
I thought that was Patton?
