I know I'm nitpicking... but the main point was that he was not intentionally adjusting the lights in order to harm his wife. It was a byproduct of his searching the attack for lost jewels, and after she mentioned the dimming lights he then leveraged that to intentionally mess with her mind in other ways.

Fair enough. In the final analysis, the operative term for what he was doing to her became known as “gaslighting”.
