MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Heatherly Noble didn't have time to think. She felt pain, then spotted a large snake rising out of the bush in front of her.
"In about two seconds I had to realize that one, you've been bitten by a snake, I don't know what kind it is. Secondly, it's there it's not going away because it's mad," she said.
The Mooresville homeowner was trimming her hedges outside her front door when the snake bit her in the hand. Horrified by the sight of the creature rising up, Heatherly stepped back not realizing she was still on her ladder.

JB,
I sincerely hope that your hollies emerged unscathed. I think it would probably hurt to get bitten in the hollies...
MWBIAW
They only covered this story because it was a black snake. And they didn’t even capitalize Black. Clear evidence of institutional racism.
. . . and how Biden got in her bush she’ll never know!
Black snake life smattered.
I do remember. Very funny bit. Reminds of that joke . . .
When a guy gets bitten in a very VERY bad place and his friend calls the doctor, the bitten guy asks, “What did the doctor say?”
The friend responds, “You’re gonna die.”
I think the hollies probably thought it was funny, too.
I will add more to this shameful blemish on my manhood; to this day, that particular holly bush is less well shaped than the others. I don’t know if I’m subconsciously punishing it for harboring the snake, or if I’m hesitant to trust it ever again after the first snake.
It’s illegal to kill a snake in Missouri.
Came across a baby (12” or so) Copperhead at a park trail here in North Alabama about a month ago. It actually seemed either really agitated or aggressive. Came right up to my shoe and lifted its head...like it sensed the body heat at my ankle or something. I just watched it close and off it went.
LOL. You win the internet today.
Exactly.
Wash the area with soap and water.
End of story.
Killed a copperhead in the garage this week.
I would guess a Racer.
Can’t tell without seeing the underside and tail.
They can be twitchy about being sawed in half.
Rat [”Black”] snakes generally don’t care if you pick them up.
Some people have all the luck.
/woulda had a new pet
Thank you!
LOL
Either that or a Blackrattlecoppercobra.
Very deadly.
Years ago, a woman decided to douse a harmless Rat snake with gasoline and cruelly set it on fire.
The flaming snake then fled from her, seeking shelter under her house, which subsequently burned to the ground.
Her insurance company did not pay.
[is auto-arson a thing?]
LOL
too bad we can’t trim more Bushes around the country.
LOL! Good story in comment #13. Thanks!
Snakes Alive!!! Something I don’t have to worry about in Alaska. Bears, however, are another matter. A guy I used to fly with when we were both loadmasters in the Alaska Air National Guard was severely injured when he was mauled by a grizzly the other day.
