Incredible story. My Ukrainian Grandmother’s family had some experiences, though not as violent, similar to this. The more arms we have, the less likely they can get all of us.

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family?” - Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

“...The more arms we have, the less likely they can get all of us.”

The more arms that we have, the less likely that the would-be tyrants will attempt to become actual tyrants. Just like a nation spending more on arms, stockpiling ammunition and missiles and training will be less likely to be challenged to the point of having to go to war...but if they have to, they are then also much better prepared to prevail.

On the other side of my family, my mother’s, about 70 people were murdered by the Nazis in Poland. A very few on my father’s side were. But not a single one of them possessed any firearms, which enabled the Nazis to transport them to camps and do literally anything that they wanted to do to them. Such is the nature of power coupled to an evil morality, especially in the modern industrial age.

Suffice it to say that in light of the experiences on both sides of my family in Europe in the last century, I am not similarly vulnerable. It may well be that some tyrannical regime attempts something similar here at some point in the future, and I and my present family will be similarly victimized...but this time it will definitely NOT be for free.
