Years ago I was involved in Medical Ultrasound and the representative group is the SDMS with yearly dues. When they doubled the fees I questioned them and the response was they need more funds to help lobby Congress for greater recognition. That’s when I cut off my membership. We were all for medical education and growth of the industry but why the hades did we have to lobby Congress for recognition? Upper management educators in unions and societies love their power trips and authoritative control and in bed with Big Govt. Had no regret not giving them another dime.

LoL - lame, unimaginative and likely an outright lie. They were probably grifting and misappropriating the heck out of the dough. An attorney general investigation should have been in their future.
