Something like 80% to 90% of the people I work with send their kids to those schools...and virtually all of them can afford not to. But what the heck, their free!!!!!?”
You ever notice that people’s opinions of public schools are like their opinions of congressman; theirs is great. It’s all the others that are crap. I saw a note from my niece’s teacher. It said, verbatim, “talk to much, do not listen”. She’s supposed to be teaching this kid to speak proper English.

Yea, it’s normal to be defensive. Look at it the other way, if they admit their schools suck, but they still send their kids to those schools, what does that say about those parents?
...and that’s part of why the schools continue to operate open-loop.
