Codswallop. I live in a place where I see Bald Eagles on a daily basis and have never heard of a legitimate case where an eagle took a pet. Coyotes on occasion and rarely a cougar or wolf, but never an eagle. As far as animal attacks go, domestic dogs kill far more than every other creature combined.
I think Bald Eagle are mainly scavengers.
I see them a lot here in the cascade foot hills.
The surprise for me this Saturday was seeing a couple of Turkey Vultures buzzing the yard.
I didn’t t know that they inhabit in this area.
I just saw red headed hawks...had to look it up.
They are scavengers too.
I see red hawks often and on rare occasion I see great horned owls.
If a bald eagle buzzes the yard, I usually hear them first, their wings really swoosh.
I seem to recall a story a few years ago about people watching a Bald Eagle cam who were upset that the eagles had killed a cat and brought it to their nest to eat.
Coyotes here in N Florida got all the feral cats (and the occasional small dog). Now all the rats are back.
I have a difficult time believing that.
Cats are notorious killers of birds and other wildlife.
Of course, cats love to torture and play with their catch much more than dogs.
That may take some of the time they might devote to more killing...
Yeah. I live near the “National Eagle Center” in Wabasha, Minnesota. Eagles congregate along that stretch of the Mississippi River, especially in the winter because the river doesn’t freeze there.
I’ve seen six eagles perched in the same damned tree, with a couple dozen others in the vicinity.
I haven’t heard anyone complaining about lost pets, and eagles have been in this area in large numbers for decades now.
