The whereabouts of the elder Bush around November 22, 1963 are unclear. He was in Dallas the day before the assassination and Tyler, about 100 miles east of Dallas, reportedly making a speech before a local Kiwanis Club. The president of that club vouched for the Bushes’ presence that day. I don’t know if anyone has verified that GHWB actually gave a speech. Since he was a minor celebrity in Texas in those days due to his GOP activism, you would think that the Tyler newspaper would have had an announcement of his speech.
