No. It is purely an alternative spelling that came in to usage in the 1970’s.

If you consult a dictionary, you will see you are not correct. Yes, it is a modern adaption of an old English word, but it has a specific meaning in the publishing world.

I did consult a dictionary to find that out.

Everything is an adaptation of an old English word.

Lede is obsolete now to differentiate it from printing equipment which is no longer used.

It’s an affectation.
