This is not about a wood shortage. They have all the wood they need. It’s stacked up and backed up, waiting for mills to catch up. The bottleneck is the mills, working at partial capacity because of the virus.

i.e. you directly blame the political response to the virus for this. Another of many costs of the lockdowns.

I was going to sell off the lumber on my property, this is how I found out about this.

In the PNW, Oregon especially, several old time mills have been sold and converted to hemp processing.

BC found it was cheaper to send their raw logs to China to be milled. Adding supply chain complexity, on top of a closed border.
