LA residents blast proposed homeless campsites at beaches, parks

A proposal to tackle homelessness in Los Angeles with temporary homeless encampments at government-owned parks and beachfront lots is prompting fierce blowback from residents — who fear it’ll turn public spaces into hotbeds for crime without addressing the underlining issues causing homelessness.

The plan put forth by Los Angeles City Councilman Mike Bonin seeks to allow homeless people to pitch tents and receive social services at family-friendly outdoor spaces across the Westside — including Westchester Park, Mar Vista Park, Dockweiler Beach in Playa del Rey and Will Rogers State Beach in Pacific Palisades.

The proposal, slated for a City Council vote later this month, also calls for a temporary site for single-occupancy “tiny homes” or safe camping areas at a county-owned parking lot in Marina del Rey, as well as property at Los Angeles International Airport.

But the plan has sparked a massive recall effort by residents who claim that their local parks and beaches are already inundated by tents, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Kenneth Flinchum, 38, said Westchester Park is much safer than the Venice Boardwalk. Flinchum has been living in the park since last summer.

Interesting that it wasn't a problem until the homeless started becoming more visible in their neighborhoods.

These homeless camps are the end-game, the “fallout”, of failed liberal policies.

Hi.

I got an idea. Barges. Just like “home.”. Facilities like heads, galleys and assorted other amenities like bunks, showers , recreation and basic medical care.

Anchor the barge 12 miles out, supply it with food, toilet paper, booze and drugs. Two trips ashore by launch every day and no more.

Problems solved.

Exactly. They’re first class NIMBY’s.

Minneapolis has them too - especially in the wealthier, white and upper class neighborhoods such as Kenwood, Linden Hills, etc. The same neighborhoods with their preponderance of virtue signaling Black Lives Matter and “Hate is Not A Virtue” lawnsigns.

These people would scream like stuck pigs if they moved a homeless encampment away from the outskirts of downtown and put it in a park near their precious neighborhoods.

Here’s how this works: In the 1970s and ‘80s, liberals succeeded in getting a vast number of mental hospitals closed for “humanitarian” reasons.

• Homelessness is in large part a mental health problem.
• More mental hospitals could solve a great deal of the problem.
• But the main attribute of liberals is they cannot admit they were wrong about anything, ever. Ever.
• Therefore, mental hospitals will remain closed for “humanitarian” reasons, and the homeless will continue to multiply.

...you forgot, they also blamed the homeless on the ‘budget cuts’ (LOL) of the Reagan Administration.
