"I'm not an anti-vaxxer per se. I've had pretty much all the standard ones over my lifetime like polio, smallpox, tetanus, etc. But this zeal by the government to get me to take this one is creeping me out. So I weigh the pros and cons."

That exactly describes my attitude. I just can't avoid the feeling that there's some hidden agenda behind this, that they are preparing us for something further down the road, trying to create a precedent for forcing millions of people to have something done to their bodies that they don't want done, e.g., some sort of implant, or forced sterilization.

Well the sterilization part I can handle because my kids are finally all grown up and out on their own! But I see your point. Also, I’d like to have grandchildren someday so hopefully my children are not affected in that way.
