Good deal if your younger. I personally would like no permit required but this is the next step.
Cool. Not as cool as not needing one at all to carry like my state but less red tape that way.
My five year permit runs out next month. I hope the bill goes into effect soon.
I print my own permit - our state Constitution, Article 16.
Robertson explained on the House floor that this legislation does not change a sheriff’s authority to deny or revoke a concealed carry permit if he or she believes that person is a danger to the community even if they pass the background check.
So apparently, a sheriff can deny someone a Constitutional right at their whim?
Rep. Chris England, D-Tuscaloosa, asked, “What if an applicant is under investigation, but prosecutors don’t want to reveal that. Is there a way that a sheriff can deny a person without revealing that there is a criminal investigation going on?”
And they can deny your rights based on mere suspicion?
This bill brings “some standardization to the process” and it gives “citizens an” opportunity to have a lifetime concealed carry permit.” This also “creates an important tool” for law enforcement by creating a statewide database of prohibited persons.
Hmmm... a centralized database of people not allowed their rights. I wonder what folks would say if the voter database were run against this? Also, I doubt there will be provisions set out in law to allow folk to challenge their inclusion on this database of 'evil doers'.
“There will be no name of any permit holder in the database,” Robertson explained to reporters.
LOL. OK, you are issuing 'licenses', yet are trying to claim that's not a list of permit holders? HAHAHAHAHA.
While I'm not as strongly opposed to CCW permits as I once was, mainly because it helps those with permits to avoid some hassles, it is still a blatant rejection of a constitutional right.
