WABC radio reported the ransom was paid. Not sure if that was during a newscast, or from one of their hosts.
Ha. My sister has to go fetch her daughter from Mount St. Mary’s tomorrow (Spring session ends). That’ll kill about 2/3 of a tank from Cumberland and back.
This is a glaring example of what happens when you have a single point of failure. Instead of cancelling pipelines, we should be building more. Not to mention hardening these systems, even if it means a return to more manual methods of operation.
From what I’ve seen on reports, Maryland is one of the LEAST hit east coast states with a shortage due to the port of Baltimore.
Was in Virginia today. Lines at almost every station. One of the cheap stations went up 20 cents today had a huge line. The usually more expensive station a block away that today had the SAME PRICE as the cheap place had a normal amount of cars.
Don’t people ever check GasBuddies?
Well, you can take consolation that they’re still running checks on the line. If they fine something hinky, they could shut part of it back down. Then my fellow central Marylanders can enjoy the new green economy that they so desire. :-)
Well I’m not gonna pay you. Liberal central Marylanders must SUFFAAAAHHHHH!!!
Hopefully Canada, and maybe even the US, will tell Whitler to F off, since an international pipeline should be an international matter, not a state one.
Central Maryland, as far as I can tell, had more people than usual at some stations, but at least the lines didn’t spill out into the streets.
The Eastern Shore is another story. They were running out.
Thanx...
Yes, and even if the crooks did release the systems, they could have left viruses hidden in obscure places to wreak untold havoc or repeat the whole episode monthly. I assume the hacker ransoms are priced low enough to undercut the cost of replacing every conceivable thing that could be infected. But with a pipeline like this, the cost of NOT replacing everything could be enormous. I see no way the operator could justify paying the ransom and keeping the vulnerability.
A big concern that will remain is that this was an inside job. I wonder if all employees and contractors have had to undergo lie detector tests.
Biden signs cybersecurity executive order after ransomware attack on fuel pipeline
Note that Deep State refuses to ID the company mentioned in the EO...
Yes, 4MPH is just about right. I think that’s on the 40” pipe on the Colonial.
I think you don’t understand the industry. Gas stations are re-stocked on a schedule, sold far in advance. If they run out and there’s no fuel to sell them until the pipeline restarts, they’re out of luck.
