Pretty early during the lockdowns, my immediate family had family food challenges on the weekends. We are geographically spread out across the country, and one son is completely isolated as a single person. Part of this was to help him get through being so alone, and we also wanted to make sure he was eating. He was laid off from BOTH of his jobs during the lockdowns.
We are all excellent cooks, but worked to broaden our skills during the challenges. So we took photos of our culinary creations, and shared with each other. One weekend the theme was sandwiches, and we love a good Cuban. (I’m a native Floridian, so grew up with these wonders at neighborhood eateries.)
Needless to say, in the Midwest, we don’t have many places to purchase authentic Cuban bread, and it is different than French, Italian, or other hoagie type breads. So I learned how to make Cuban bread from scratch. Oh man! So freaking good, I think I’ll need to make more soon after I get all my planting accomplished. The key ingredient was the lard.
Needless to say, Mr. FF and I “won” that weekend.
like dewines wife and her cookie recipes!
>>Isn’t a crumpet what we call an English Muffin?
I swear, they have a different name for everything.
French Fries = Chips
Chips = Crisps
They call cookies “biscuits”, I haven’t bothered to learn what they call a biscuit.
I never knew what a crumpet is. It sounds pretty, though, as in “tea and crumpets”.
The key ingredient was the lard.
Amen brother, The key ingredient was the lard.
I think that Cockney rhyming slang is how strumpet becomes crumpet.
A Korean student friend of mine gave me a serving of Kim Chi and I tried it (I’m bold that way) I must say, NEVER AGAIN.
English muffin that has not been sliced.
I am certain many gained weight through COVID-19 due to carbs never being burnt off.
Diabetes!
My wife loves kimchi, while I don’t mind it.
That’s a healthy food.
The "medianoche" (midnight) was Dexter's favorite sandwich, according to the novels. The bread is supposedly sweeter.
Our lockdown in Alaska ended last May. Life has been pretty normal since then. Unless you live in the People’s Republic of Anchorage. Then life still sucks for you. But my part of Alaska has been back to normal for a year now.
Lovely, correct picture if a crumpets. Might I suggest a little butter and Robertson’s Lemon Curd or Robertson’s Ginger Shred.
