No idea what a j pole is but I listen to am radio and the reception is worse now than it ever was. How to I get better reception? Once I’m within a mile of this fire station it is all static and high pitch noises.

Does your AM radio have a connector for hooking up an external antenna?

Years ago I tried one of the highend C.Crane antennas, and was underwhelmed.

What is the frequency of your preferred stations? AM radio is prone to static and interference. Some radio stations have an FM based repeater that can be picked up with a digital radio.
