The hiker was shot during a turkey hunt managed by the Missouri Department of Conservation, according to KSDK. The hunt was set to wrap up around 1 p.m. Turkey hunting season concludes Sunday.

Why do you have a turkey hunt on a popular hiking trail ?

Darn good question. According to Alltrails.com:

Lewis and Clark Trail and Lewis Trail Loop is a 8.3 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near St. Charles, Missouri

One of the comments from a person who was on the trail on last April 25 reads "Crowded but fun". A week before a commenter posted ...over all, really nice! Busy though!!

WTH!

In this sort of environment, either you completely close the area to non-hunters or don't have a hunt there.

“”Why do you have a turkey hunt on a popular hiking trail ?””. Why would one hike in an area where others are hunting? Hiking or harassing?

I have seen some pretty big wild turkeys but none as large as a hiker.

Maybe Wild Turkey was involved?

Why do hiking trails go through prime turkey hunting land?
