I believe Musk is offering 100 Mbps for $99 a month, plus $499 upfront cost to order the Starlink Kit. The kit includes a user terminal to connect to the satellites, a mounting tripod and a Wi-Fi router.

By contrast, I’m in a rural area that has fiber-optic service nonetheless. The provider is the local rural telco: For $60 plus taxes, etc., we are getting (test I ran last night):

Ping ms
33 (It often comes up less.)

Download Mbps
59.22

Upload Mbps
44.84

That’s actually quite a bit faster than what we need, esp. on the upload side. 30 Mbps on the download side and 10 Mbps for upload would likely be plenty.

I wonder if, for people who want only “basic communications”, SpaceX might eventually consider a lower bandwidth package? (That likely doesn’t fit the business model, though.)

BTW, those results above were late last night on my wi-fi connected laptop. Just now (10:35 a.m. CST) my desktop came back with:

Ping ms
2

Download Mbps
72.39

Upload Mbps
70.38

To be honest, I think most “slow” webpages are slow at the site or just trying to load up excessive ads.

Yes, I saw my 1st & only one so far a few months ago - very cool as the sats one by one “winked out of sight” as they passed into the Earth’s shadow.)
