Please forgive me if this is too far off topic, but what is going on with this field strength measurement/calculation the FCC suddenly wants all hams to do? I know you are not yet required to send them in, but if they did it seems to me that that would give them a good idea of who has what capabilities. One has to wonder why they would want to know that.

“If they did...” is for future reference. The government, wishing to be helpful, could use such reports as a basis for the FCC to verify your station calculations during a visit. Just make sure you don’t have any weapons, ammo, or copies of any hunting magazines or other related items visible. If you do, they probably have a SWAT team standing by for assistance.

My guess is that ham radios are being blamed for interference with wifi and smart home automation. That’s certainly an issue for 2400 Mhz and 5800 Mhz.
