It's all a sort of rhetorical escalation of the degree to which they play with your mind with symbols, a virtualization of the real world.

Perhaps it started with the "wind chill factor," followed by the "real feel" temperature of AccuWeather, itself followed by The Weather Channel's "feels like" temperature. When it's warm, the temperature is warmer than warm, and when it's cold, the temperature is colder than cold.

In the world of symbols, reality is a construct, and there's no limit to the amount of deception (or — more benignly — "virtualization") that is possible.

For some years now, we've been seeing this concept extended and abstracted into the political arena, where the Left is using it to have all kinds of fun, while the Right is just barely beginning to notice it, let alone figure out how to deal with it.
