I did radiation effects testing for years, and had a 50’s vintage x-ray machine that was pretty fierce. Most folks would be cautious around it, but the old guys who had worked on above ground nuke tests back in the day would reach into the beam line occasionally. By their standards it was nothing.

When I was NAVY, late 60s early 70s, you would tag out the breaker for equip you were working on. Turning that circuit on without getting it untagged was a court martial offense.
