Arial 12 pt... what it should have always been.

Arial unfortunately is one of the fonts where the "l" and capital "I" are identical.

Any default font needs to add the option of a zero with a slash through it like Consolas. There are too many situation where users need to distinguish between Os and zeros.

I like Calibri. Tahoma is good too.

Absolutely agreed on both points. Each character needs to be instantly and unambiguously identifiable. A good font that is truly scalable is actually pretty hard to design.
