In this case, it’s business; not personal. China is trying to sell their garbage vaccines (e.g. Sinovac, garbage, 50% effective https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-55642648). We’re in the way with Pfizer (HQ in NY, NY), Moderna (HQ in Cambridge, MA), and J&J (HQ in New Brunswick, NJ).
So China has elected to employ a massive disinformation campaign in the hopes of convincing people that American vaccines - Trump’s vaccines - don’t work and that we should all get China’s garbage vaccines instead. The problem for them and for anti-vaccine people helping the Chinese disinformation campaign is that observable reality is pretty difficult to compete with. There have been clinical trials, real-world studies in the US and in Israel. All of them show that the Trump vaccines work very well.
Sorry China.
So China is doing the Andrew Wakefield thing: propagandizing against a vaccine to pave the way for its own vaccine.
