Yeah, my sister got caught up in a mess like this - she was trying to sell her home in Los Gatos, California (wealthy area of Silicon Valley) - the buyer was purchasing the home for the wife he was divorcing and the 16-year old son, which he had to do as per the divorce degree. The buyer was moving into another home in the area with his young girlfriend.
Wife was scorned so she found everything wrong with the house and demanded everything be changed around - new flooring, marble entryway, the list went on and on. My sister made a few upgrades and then said “enough!” The wife was stalling as long as possible from what we could tell - to punish the ex.
Finally, after a lot of finagling, and more time than she wanted, the house was sold for the scored wife and 16-year old kid.
Saw at least a dozen kids in my kids grade go thru this. I guess rationale is kid should not suffer and have to change schools. Glad things worked out for your sis. BTW been to Los Gatos several times to visit friends. Its very nice.
