Yep, and coach liked the paddle with the holes in it.
Our Junior High shop class had an annual contest to make the paddle that the Principal would use that year
In my grade school, the 8th grade shop class made a present for the Phys Eds Teacher. They even painted it in school colors with the words ‘Board of Education’.
Some of us came out a lot more ‘educated’ than others.
