If the whole site is completely hand cranked and doesn’t use any standard plug-in stuff, then fair enough.
The flip side of the argument might be, what does the money for the freepathon get spent on?

If the code was created in 1997 and is being very loosely maintained then who knows what security holes are in it.
I mean, a commercial forum using supposedly secure standard code was downloaded in its entirety only a few months back. A 20 year old platform might be a cakewalk to hack by comparison.
If security patching isn’t covered by freepathon I would not mind seeing the sum increased to cover that effort.
Post editing might be low priority, but one good argument for having it is if someone posts a copyright infringement or actionable libel, they have an opportunity to amend or retract. If there’s no edit option it is entirely down to the admins and site owners to reduce legal risk.
