War Drums Beating Louder Across Mideast

Fast rising tension between Israel and Iran may well end badly, and in part we have the Biden administration to thank.

On April 11 a presumed Israeli sabotage of Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility damaged the enrichment plant and that was quickly followed by the launch of an Iranian missile that landed near Israel’s secretive Dimona nuclear reactor. These actions are only the latest tit-for-tat attacks that risk escalation of tensions which could well become an open conflict and yes, the U.S. would be drawn into the fight.

Clearly tensions are rising and already involve the U.S. military. On April 27 the USS Firebolt, while operating near the Strait of Hormuz, fired warning shots near three Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps patrol boats that approached the American warship, after verbal warnings were ignored. A U.S. Navy official called the Iranian approach “an unnecessarily close range with unknown intent.”

This incident follows a long series of explosive Israeli-Iranian exchanges, all in the shadow of the move by the Biden administration to rejoin the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, aka President Barack Obama’s 2015 nuclear deal with Tehran, which the Trump administration abandoned in 2018 because it was "a horrible one-sided deal that should have never, ever been made."

We know trouble is ahead thanks to the increased tension. On April 14, the U.S. Director of National Intelligence, Avril Haines, testified that “We expect that Iran will take risks that could escalate tensions and threaten U.S. and allied interests in the coming year.” The facts are that Iran is frustrated with American sanctions that devastated its economy, dealing with COVID-19, and driven by its own ideological, hegemonic agenda regarding the Middle East as well as hatred for Israel.

Iran, China, Russia. The media has left the NORKs out of the equation, but they may want to take the opportunity to go into South Korea. All of this while Biden has the military hot on the trail of Trump supporters.

“Back in Washington, renewed Middle East troubles come at a rather inconvenient time. “

That’s an odd statement. Pretty much everyone and everything operates normally with little or no extra capacity. That has to do with how everything is funded. As a result, there is no convenient time for anything that isn’t already factored into the budget. (on the more human thinking scale, having a baby is a good example . Because a family already has its time and money budgeted, a sudden pregnancy always comes at “an inconvenient time.”)

You would think that as massive as the US government and military are, that there would always be sufficient capacity to deal with renewed troubles someplace. With few exceptions, all the money and time for everyone and everything that must deal with the “inconvenient” troubles is already budgeted someplace else. The genius of great leaders is they can quickly reset priorities and reallocate resources to handle (or delay) the budgeted problems and/or the inconvenient challenge. I have no doubt a Trump government could do that. The present president, though, is focused on domestic issues like whose hair he will sniff next and which pudding he will have with lunch.

My bets on Israel, it will be over before you know it. They want to take out their nuclear capabilities and will do so in swift fashion. JMHO, your mileage may vary.

Israel will strike at the time most beneficial to the mission. Because Kerry and other Israel-haters populate the Biden Administration, I suspect the US will learn of the strikes as will the rest of us - on the morning news. Once the fighting has begun, and while the US blasts Israel in the UN as the aggressor, China and Russia will waste no time in furthering their own strategic goals. In short order, the US will be confronted with simultaneous shooting wars in the the Middle East, the South China Sea, and the Ukraine. If forced to choose, the Administration will come to the aid of the Ukraine, slow walk any assistance to Israel, and turn its back on Taiwan which will revert to Chinese control. Of course, Israel will be blamed for plunging the world into war.

IF, the norks tried to invade the south they would not stand a chance.
South Korean soldiers average 15 pounds over their North counterpart due to malnutrition.
Hard as hell to fight, march fight some more when you haven’t had a decent meal in your entire life.
Yeah, lots of missiles would be launched and lots of death on both sides.
If little fat boy used a nuke the U.S.A> would respond in kind.

"Fast rising tension between Israel and Iran may well end badly, and in part we have the Biden administration to thank."

We also have the prevailing, un-moderated propaganda and division within once-conservative forums to thank, or we wouldn't have lost the elections. The din has become too loud to sort through for useful information or ideas.

Tehran believes that saber-rattling can persuade the Biden administration to provide relief from crippling sanctions...

The author points out correctly that Biden isn't an unknown card in this hand, he's had half a century in federal office and two stints as VP, during both of which the Iranians got everything they wanted including - literally - pallets of cash. Kerry's illegal backdoor communications throughout have told them everything they need to know about who decides what in the Biden administration, which is more information than the American people have.

Biden is a fiddle that the Iranians know how to play.

Outstanding Analysis. The financial markets will go to hell in a hand basket, gold will skyrocket, we will flounder without chips, rare-earths, and reagents for medicine. China will have us by the b@!!$. I am not worried about Israel getting the job done, your scenario where power abhors a vacuum. Our demented puppet and his masters are already in the Chicoms back pocket, they will just bow like his boss did.And I was worried about them taking over the EV market with a series of Cheap Electric Cars, this is far worse...

The Israelis have a last ditch, self defense strategy called “The Sampson Option’’. Named after the Biblical strongman who destroyed the pagan temple of Dagon and himself in the process.

This involves Israel, if it is threatened with annihilation
firing all their nukes at whom ever is threatening them. They're not going to allow themselves to be pushed into the sea or back into gas chambers.
