Key Progressive Action Items Just Took a Major Hit

You’ve all heard about the election overhaul bill Democrats want enacted. For the People Act, also known as HR 1, seeks to pretty do what Democrats have dreamed of doing concerning elections since Citizens United, among other things. They also want DC Statehood. Democrats cannot obtain the vote totals in national elections to clinch the legislative majorities need to enact their doomsday bills, so they’re gunning to make DC a state. They want the two senators. That’s it. It’s not about giving a voice to these people. You saw that when an alternate proposal to retrocede the city into Maryland was received. It gave the people in DC representation, but they want the two extra senators which are obviously going to be Democrats. Oh, and to oppose it is a sign of racism. So many eyerolls there.

Yet, it’s not Republicans who are going to nuke HR 1 or DC statehood. It appears once again a Democrat will torpedo progressives’ plans, and his name is Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV). The conservative-leaning Democrat said he’s a “no” on both proposals, which will surely infuriate the far left again. The good thing about Manchin is that he doesn’t care. At the same time, he does try to strike a balance, but at times—it looks like he’s a fish flopping on the deck. On this, however, it looks like Joe is ready to deliver the killshot...

Mitt will make up for Manchin’s (supposed) NO vote. And I don’t trust Manchin as far as far as I can throw Nadler, anyway. Promise West Virginia the right flavor of pork, and Joe will cave.

I’m getting real tired of these jerks writing laws and then putting a title on it that is the exact opposite of the law they wrote.

I've said this before about Manchin (and been proven right) and I'll say it again:

Manchin is only a "no" until he gets what he wants in exchange for his vote. Whether it's a prime job for his wife, one of his kids or some other form of payola, when he gets what he wants, he'll change to a YES.

Guarandamnteed.

It will go to scotus. No way they can avoid 23rd amendment and art 1 district set aside. It will require an amendment to the constitution...assuming honest judges.

STOP CELEBRATING MANCHIN AND SINGING HIS PRAISES!

The guy is a political snake who will turn on a dime if he gets enough pork.

Manchin makes all decisions on how to vote strictly according to where he is in the election cycle.

He voted to confirm Kavenaugh because it was right before Manchin's 2018 re-election. Once he was safely re-elected, he didn't hesitate to vote to impeach Trump (and again in Jan 2021).

Not sure about that. I don't know, just not sure. The Constitution does seem to have a clause that seems to allow Congress to write laws about voting. Article 1 section 4:

The fact that Maryland has 1.8% of the population means their 2 senators out of 100 is already higher than their share (of course that's how the Senate was meant to be anyway).

Adding DC's population still makes it at about 2%. So no one should be complaining about the GOP's proposal to merge DC into Maryland.

Unless you're a Democrat with a pre-disposition to complain about everything under the sun.

The 23rd addresses the status of the district directly. I doubt that can be overcome.

You mean just like the 10th amendment's restrictions on the federal gov't? Without enforcement mechanisms, unfortunately, the constitution becomes moot.

The Constitution required ethical people in government and we ran out of those.

Just our luck!!!

We hand Georgia to the Democrats so that they can destroy the country, with this (rigging all future elections) being their top priority, but making guns illegal, PR and DC states, and destroying our ‘safe’ neighborhoods also high up on their list. But NO, Manchin has to throw COLD WATER on our plan to destroy this country.

Sickening...Manchin needs to be replaced by a REAL LIBERAL, otherwise this country might survive a few more years.

Sincerely, Lin Wood (and his idiot supporters here)

It all depends on scotus. Like Manchin says, it will be appealed.

I’m guessing that scotus will rule against it. On the other hand, I believe that in our era, scotus is easily bought/brow beat.
