Always was a Genesis fan. Not sure if my favorite would be Nursery Cryme or Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, but Trick of the Tail is definitely in my list of all time top 5 albums.
Never got to see them in the early Peter Gabriel days, the best Genesis incarnation I think. Some good songs after “And Then There Were Three”, but the early stuff and Trick of the Tale were definitely their best.
Found a couple of early videos a few years ago, Gabriel and his costumes had quite a reputation. I knew about those before I ever heard them. I think Nursery Cryme was the 1st album I heard, but could have been Selling England or Tresspass, it’s been 40 years.
just amazing musicians..
I will NEVER understand how somebody can drum and sing at the same time.
easier than doing it on the sax
Trespass is still one of my favorites.
In the end it worked out for the best, I don’t think they could have ever topped The Lamb, with Gabriel. And Gabriel went on to do some great albums outside of Genesis, especially that first album (the one with Solsbury Hill), every song is really good, “Moribund the Burgermeister” probably was about the closest thing Gabriel did that sounded like Genesis.
Are ticket prices going to equal a mortgage payment?
I always struggle to say what my favorite Genesis song, but if I did have to say, it would have to be “Ripples”. The middle instrumental section is just one of the most beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever heard.
“Point being, all 70s acts that had success in the 80s had to change with the times.”
Good thing that the Eagles broke up for that decade.
I sing all the time during sex.
The official Genesis YouTube channel puts out a song per week in order, they are on The Lamb now.
This is my favorite from The Lamb

I say The Beatles broke up right at the right time, as the 70s were coming, it kept their legacy intact, unlike the other contemporary bands that pretty much became nostalgia acts.
Check out #23, there’s some great live footage of The Knife.
good heady stuff
Yep
Yeah, hard to pick a favorite.
As far as just the Trick of the Tail album, Ripples is great, Squonk is probably my favorite, but Entangled is really nice too and just about everything else.
For an overall favorite, I think Carpet Crawlers is probably the one that pops into my head most often. I Know What I Like was really good, and several cuts on Lamb Lies Down were excellent, Fly on A Windshield comes to mind, and the title track.
Return of the Giant Hogweed, from Nursery Cryme, was good, can’t remember what else was on it, haven’t heard that one in at least 30 years.
Later on as a 3 piece, it’s hard to beat The Brazilian for an instrumental. Several other good songs, but the Brazilian really stands out. I’d pay to see that one done onstage.
Singing while saxing... you got me beat! I don’t know if I ever saw that. My point was about people like Collins and Don Henley who were using both hands, both feet and singing at the same time. Blowing into a an instrument, stopping to sing doesn’t seem quite as difficult though. Regards.
