I am not a member of the ARRL as I don’t see any value in it personally. If you’re referring to the proclamation that using ham radio for planning illegal activities is against the law, well duh. Did the FCC really need to say that? And do they really think that the people who are buying little Baofeng HT’s on Amazon actually give a damn about the law? Better yet why doesn’t the FCC crack down on the sellers on Amazon that are selling ham radio gear to non-licensed hams? I was a customer at AES ham in Milwaukee for a very long time before it switched to Ham radio outlet. AES would always validate you were a licensed Ham before selling ham radio gear to someone. How about they actually crack down on the people that are selling ham radio gear to non-licensed hams? That seems to me to be a much more effective policy then issuing a stupid proclamation that says using amateur radio gear to plan illegal activities is against the law. And that right there demonstrates why I do not belong to the ARRL. A smart organization would push back on the FCC and tell them to start cracking down on the suppliers who illegally sell ham radio gear to non-licensed hams. But the ARRL hasn’t done that. So I will continue to not belong to it.
