It has, which has had the effect of isolating me somewhat since the majority of my closest friends are Americans in Buffalo and the surrounding towns.
This morning, Premier Ford asked Trudeau to require travelers returning to Ontario by vehicle to also have to spend $2000 to quarantine in a Hotel Hell, a procedure currently covering only air travelers. I was certain at 10:00 a.m. that Trudeau was going to approve his request, affecting my planned trip to Florida later in May.
I was shocked and delighted to learn this afternoon that Trudeau declined Ford’s request. I was already trying to ascertain the quarantine rules of other provinces and preparing to re-route my flight again so I could cross into another province and drive myself home in a rental. I’m relieved I won’t have to do that, though there’s no escaping the 14 day home quarantine when I get back. But I’ll save the $2000, be able to eat my own cooking and sleep in my own bed. My garden and lawn will be lovely at the end when I abandon it again for golf.
I’m a prolific penpal to both leaders, much of it critical, educational or questioning, and will send a “Great decision!” letter to Trudeau tomorrow. I also give credit and thanks where it’s due, even though I know they’re secretly plotting to kill me in spite of this unexpected “kindness”. I don’t take it personally. They’re trying to kill all of us.
