It’s a pain in the neck, whenever I travel for business to a city and rent a car... half the time I forget to also rent an EZ pass (and/or they forget to offer one). In Chicago there was a 25 cent offramp to the airport. Which was just a stupid low price. Coins only. No quarter, no pay, get a ticket for $35.
You can order your own ezpass even if you don’t live in an ezpass state. Virginia shipped one to me out in ‘flyover country.’ I use it for rental cars or when I roadtrip to the east coast.
“The tollway also said it will begin a program in May to help low-income drivers by waiving deposits on I-PASS transponders and adding $20 in tolls to people with household incomes up to 2 1/2 times the poverty line.”
It’s not bad enough that the toll system itself is self-sustaining institutionalized thievery, now it’s an income redistribution system too.
If I have to go up there, I have two choices: possibly get robbed and/or shot on 90/94, or get robbed only on 294.
Just a matter of time where prices at retail stores will be based upon your income.
The last time we visited Illinois, we just went through the EZ passes, and received a bill a couple of weeks later.
