I work in the ER and so our treatment plan is different than what they do in the ICU and the med surg floors. I have talked to those nurses and I'm pretty sure they were giving plenty of steroids, heparin and vitamin C. I just know that in wave 1 when everyone was talking about HCQ, they tried it and it wasn't helping so they moved on. We lost the majority of our patients in wave 1 in my county. We led the state in deaths in fact. We had much better success in wave 2 from what I saw.
I think locking down the nursing homes and proning patients was probably pretty helpful but it was a freaking disaster and people die in disasters.
I think poor mask hygiene actually made covid spread worse. Mask hygiene was practially non-existent. I know because I was trained and fit tested for masks and respirators as PPE my entire career.
