Wealth laid up by generations of industry with wisdom can only protect a nation from the foolishness and stupidity of a people for so long ... and then the wealth is gone.

I have a better idea.

No one should be a career bureaucrat - or as Trump calls them - a buron (cross between a bureaucrat and a moron.

All top unelected officials at all federal agencies, at all top ranks, should be allowed to serve no more than six years, and not allowed to just switch to some other federal office when they leave.

No one should be a criminal, either. The Democrat Party is a brotherhood of criminals, so good luck with that!

The longer a man sits in power, the greater his abuse of power, and the more he is inclined to forget his responsibilities.

While I generally agree with this statement, I also believe from experience in California that term limits have been an absolute disaster. The short of it is that all these functionaries vie for some elected office or another and, knowing they only have 2 terms before they must move on or run for another office, milk it for all they can.

Meanwhile, it's career bureaucrats running amok inside every state agency that pull most of the strings and get away with the greatest dereliction. They have job security, and there is no continuity in government oversight. The politicians are pigs in a trough too busy to look at who's creating all that slop.

So my opinion is, we need a more engaged and active electorate. Term limits can be accomplished by ridding ourselves of the slimiest politicians while a few good people who actually do a good earnest job can and should get to serve the people longer. Hard choices of course given the amounts of corruption and abuse. I sympathize with the idea of term limits. But I don't think as a practical matter they make anything any better.

There are two ways to eliminate career pols. Term limits is one but the easiest way is to stop paying them. All of them. From local councils to national office holders. Just sayin.
