His wife, Pat, actually thought of it first, while watching Donald Trump on the Phil Donahue Show. The former President Nixon agreed with her enough to write Trump and let him know.

The left hates Nixon because he had the unmitigated gall to take a page out of their playbook.

You know, you can post more than a sentence from a blog. Especially a blog that makes it impossible for a reader to read the text of the blog.

How Richard Nixon predicted a Trump Presidency

He once debated mosh pits with Marilyn Manson.

In December, 1987, Donahue interviewed Trump on his show. Phil Donahue didn’t pull punches. From the get-go, he grilled Trump on his real estate management practices and the rumors associated with his “empire.” In the middle of the interview, Trump tells Donahue he’s able to be honest because he’s “not running for office,” after defending his policies – to the applause of a middle-class audience.

The look of surprise on Donahue’s face was clear, as he shouted “let’s hear it for the rich folks.” The debate over rent control continued for another ten minutes and the studio audience weren’t the only viewers impressed with the Donald’s performance, one viewer at home was also suitably impressed: Pat Nixon.

The former First Lady of the United States was so impressed with Trump’s responses to Donahue’s grilling that she told her husband, 37th President of the United States Richard Nixon. Nixon might have agreed with his wife, as he took the time to write to Trump:

Dear Donald,

I did not see the program, but Mrs. Nixon told me you were great on the Donahue show.
As you can imagine, she is an expert on politics and she predicts that whenever you decide to run for office, you will be a winner!

RMN

The letter was stored away in the Nixon Presidential Library Archives until the author of a 2015 biography of Trump, called “Never Enough,” included it in the memoir of then-soon-to-be Presidential candidate Trump.

Trump’s interview on Donahue covered much more than rent control in New York City. His rhetoric was similar to the arguments he would come to use as a presidential candidate, including the idea of making American allies pay for the “services we are rendering” in providing for their defense.

Good old Nixon, the champion of the free market with his wage and price control act. All this manifesto did was turn everybody into a tattletale everytime time the price of something went up.

The news at the time ranged from people reporting that someone raised their rent on down to some laundramat charging an extra quarter do their laundry. What a disaster Nixon pulled on that one. And yes, conservatives did tell him NOT to do it, but he caved to the liberal's way of thinking.

The Economic Stabilization Act of 1970 (Title II of Pub.L. 91–379, 84 Stat. 799, enacted August 15, 1970,[2] formerly codified at 12 U.S.C. § 1904) was a United States law that authorized the President to stabilize prices, rents, wages, salaries, interest rates,

It definitely would have been in America’s best interest(s) that both President Nixon and President Trump had served out their respective two terms in office.

As a 14-year-old, I vividly recall watching the Watergate hearings and later seeing Nixon depart aboard Marine One.
What a needless, senseless travesty—just like both abominable impeachment trials against President Trump!!!

With what so many politicians continue to get away with and forever reelected, the Presidency is the ONLY office with built-in terms limits. Moreover, the bar to remove a sitting POTUS ought to be much steeper, so as to preclude nothing more than malign partisan witch hunts.

Bravo to Nixon for recognizing and appreciation our future Commander-in-Chief’s immense qualities. Just wish that he had not been driven from the White House, leading to Ford’s subsequent weaknesses that resulted in the perilous rise of Carter . . .

Praying still each day that President Trump will have a chance to right the course of our ship of state, as he mounts a triumphant comeback in 2024!!

Everybody forgets the real context of the Nixon presidency: he assumed the office during an absolutely brutal period in our history.

1. He inherited a full-on war 10,000, miles away which pitted us against about 2,000,000 enemy fighters (VC and NVA), fully and lavishly supported by the Soviets, the Chinese, the Warsaw Pact, and some slimy "allies" of ours too. Remember too, that the pro-enemy "antiwar" movement was gathering tens of thousands of dimwits to obstruct the conduct of the war - including carrying enemy flags. (I'd love to have seen these jerks pull that crap during the WWII!)

2. He inherited the major part of the Civil Rights mayhem, immediately after Martin Luther King was assassinated and most major cities had burned - and the huge expenses of LBJ's War Against Poverty.

3. We had to maintain a huge Cold War force in Europe and Japan, plus bombers and missiles on standby - all expensive, in manpower and supporting costs.

4. In the Middle East, a major war erupted between Syria, Iraq, and Egypt against Israel that was a really close-run thing, also inflamed by Soviet meddling and support in the Arab countries (including offering nukes to Egypt). We also had the Arab Oil Embargo going, which drastically affected out country/

5. Then, we had a the "Space Race", including the very costly and risky "Race to the Moon" which Kennedy had started and had already cost Billions.

Nixon was an outstanding President who, like Trump, never had a break from the press for a single second - yet. like Trump, worked miracles to keep our country safe and away from the brink of Armageddon.

I will always despise the Left and the Democrat Party for what they did to Nixon and Trump.

Nixon was a leftist, far to the left of JFK. His policies cause the 70’s recession.

Nixon put the Great Society on steroids , and began the sell out to the chi-coms. I would have voted for John G Scbmitz in 1972.

I would not have been a raging leftist, devaluing the dollar, and growing the Great Society, and selling out to the USSR and China. Nixon was a leftist.

“That idiot also took us off the Gold Standard, and devalued the dollar.”

What should Nixon have done, Mr Goldbug?

Morph into Rumplestiltskin and start pulling gold out of his his ass?

Many people don’t like Nixon because he was politically incorrect, ( listen to some of his oval office tapes) so his enemies usually start by talking about his trip to China or price controls.

They don’t have the guts, to tell why they Really hated him.

No, I think most people here oppose liberalism of all kinds, he advanced the cause of liberalism, that makes him an enemy of conservatives.
