It is truly incredible how many cars were demolished in the movie and how many extras there were in the last scenes.

It is truly incredible how many cars were demolished in the movie and how many extras there were in the last scenes.

One hundred and three cars were wrecked in the filming, a record in 1980 when the movie was made. In 1982 the movie The Junkman destroyed 150 cars and a plane while filming. The current record is held by The Matrix Reloaded, filmed in 2003.

While there was an early rumor that Universal Pictures agreed to buy all new police cars for the Chicago Police Department, in reality, the city allowed filming on location in Chicago for a $50,000 donation to charity.

The original Gone in 60 Seconds Movie in 1974 had 127 Cars Totaled or Damaged in the 40 Minute Long Chase Scene finale.

The Budget for the Movie was only $150,000.
